Paul Griffin Founder & President
Having led the founding of City at Peace, Inc. in
Washington, D.C. in 1994, and served as its Artistic Director for five
years, Paul is currently leading the creation of City at PeaceNational.
With over 15 years of experience working in the field of youth development
and the arts, Paul has presented workshops and performances for major organizations
and events such as the Children's Defense Fund's Annual Conference, Kaiser
Permanente's Building Hope Conference, District of Columbia Superior Court's
Task Force on Family Violence, National Multicultural Institute, The American
University School of International Studies, and George Mason Institute of
Conflict Resolution. In 1993 Paul was honored at The White House as a Tomorrow's
Leader Today sponsored by Public Allies; in 2005, Paul received the Changemaker
Award from Public Allies and the National Hamilton Fish
Institute for Award for Service.
Martha Hart Johns, MA Director
of Community Engagement
An author and college lecturer, Martha Hart
Johns has published in the fields of parenting, youth development,
and children with special needs and teaches Educational and
Developmental Psychology as well as the Psychology of Sexual
Behavior. She has addressed the National Governors Conference
and the US Conference of Mayors on community practices that
reduce youth violence. For the last four years she has served
on the National Advisory Board for HIV Prevention Education
and the Arts which advises the CDC on arts-based curriculum
for reducing risk behaviors in adolescents that lead to HIV
infection. She has developed a nationally replicated arts-based
curriculum called RAVES (Real Alternatives to Violence for
Every Student) to train elementary and middle school youth
in practical conflict reduction strategies using artist-educators. She served as Director of Educational Theatre Programs
for Kaiser Permanente for six years and served as originator
and chair of four regional conferences entitled Building
Hope: Exploring Solutions to Youth Violence.
