This January, City at Peace-New York will begin its third program. This new program will engage youth who are currently in foster care in New York City and bring the total number of teenagers in City at Peace-New York each year to 125.
“Teenagers in foster care have greater risks to their well-being than most teens and so we wanted to make City at Peace available to them so that they, too, have a better chance for a safe, peaceful and productive adulthood,” says Paul Griffin, Founder & President of City at Peace-National. “And, we want to give them the opportunity to raise their voices about the special circumstances they face and to work for positive change in their communities.”
City at Peace-New York will utilize the “transitions framework” to strengthen its efforts to move foster care teens on to independent adult lives. The “transitions framework” was developed by William Bridges to more effectively manage the challenges and maximize the opportunities posed by the processes of change.
The City at Peace-New York Foster Care program is funded in part by the Andrus Family Fund, a new generation fund of the Surdna Foundation. For more information, go to the Andrus Family Fund website.
