Dear Friend,
HOPE. It’s a word we hear over and over again in City at Peace.
Our first encounter with HOPE each year usually comes from our teenage participants, who can’t see any HOPE for their future, or for the future of their communities, families or friends. In fact, for many of us it can be difficult to see HOPE for the future given current events like global warming, racism and war. Imagine the impact of these issues on today’s youth who are trying to navigate the complex and difficult teen years.
But City at Peace has found a way to make HOPE a reality.
“If it wasn’t for City at Peace, I honestly think I would have lost hope. Since being a part of City at Peace, my grades have gone up, and I feel more confident in myself.”
- Richard, 17
Our proven creative process – utilizing a dynamic combination of the performing arts and community action – empowers diverse groups of teenagers to transform their lives and create positive change in their communities. Our original performances written by our youth from their lives and vision for a better future enlightens all to the inspiration, power and promise of youth. We invite you to read more about our organization – our history, program overview, and most importantly our results – in the materials here.
This year we have had some exciting accomplishments:
- City at Peace is working with leaders in two additional cities in the U.S. to initiate new programs in 2008.
- City at Peace-NY received a grant from the Time Warner Foundation to build a second program, which significantly expands our impact in New York City.
- City at Peace-Cape Town was recently awarded funding from a major international foundation, allowing the expansion of its program over the next three years and the chance to build programs in new cities in South Africa.
We HOPE that you will be inspired by our mission and become a part of our story. It is only through the generous support of individuals like you that we can give teens the voice and the HOPE they need to create safe, healthy, peaceful lives and communities – and a brighter future for all of us.
Please join us this year by giving the gift of HOPE to our teens. Your contribution of $250, $500 or perhaps more will go a long way in helping us reach our goals.
