City at Peace-New York’s first premiere for its new foster care program took place September 23 through 27 at the off-Broadway Acorn Theatre at Theatre Row in Times Square. The show was a smashing success for the participants and audiences alike. Here is what some of our audience had to say about the show:
“I am still finding myself lost in moments in my mind created by "The Next and Last Stop is..." It was pure genius and I am not sure I have ever been so entertained and yet so emotionally struck... It's a rare balance and these young people delivered it.”
“I am so excited that our young people were able to get involved. It's remarkable what you do. THANK YOU!!”
“We LOVED having you connect with our young people and I believe that their involvement in this program has been transformative.”
“Amazing! That sums it up. These kids are incredible... We brought two friends to the show and they were blown away by what they saw. Our one friend said that he was riveted, totally engaged, and on the edge of his seat... He also said that this should be the next “Rent” on Broadway. For me, it was even more impactful with the knowledge of what these kids have overcome, above and beyond difficult home situations, as part of the foster care system.”
“What an absolute pleasure to be in the audience on Friday night! We ended up bringing five youth, but let me tell you: THEY LOVED IT!!! It was just beautiful. We all left with tears in our eyes. This was such a special and inspired group of teens up on stage. We were all so impressed. Please, please let the cast know how inspired and amazed we all were. The youth sitting on either side of me were tearing up throughout the show, whispering to me: ‘They really know how it all went down! They are talking about my life!’ It was a truly special evening and I can't thank you and all the cast members enough.“
“I LOVED the show, and so did the three teen writers we brought. To me, the stories rang so true and the show really captured the kind of gallows humor foster kids can have about awful circumstances. I'm thinking of the "Welcome to Your New Home" song with the line, "The only thing that stays the same is your cell phone." The Nickel and Dime segments reminded me of Beckett, grim and hilarious at the same time… The show was just excellent and very moving. The kids' joy in doing the show was unmissable.”
“The cast was just awesome. The acting was phenomenal. I have only positive words for your program.”
“The show was FABULOUS!! The kids enjoyed the performances and had a really positive response to the show overall!!! BRAVO to all of you!!!”
