Building a City at Peace program is a demanding - and rewarding - enterprise. It requires a lot
of time, energy and talent. If you would like to bring the power and promise of City at Peace to
your community, we would welcome hearing from you.
Before you contact us, however, we want to clarify a few things.
City at Peace does not "parachute in" to communities. We know that you know your community, and you live
there, so you are in the best position to build a program that works there. That means that we can
facilitate the creation of City at Peace, but we cannot do the work for you.
City at Peace does not "target" cities. Wherever there are young people, City at Peace can be a means
for creating safe, healthy and peaceful communities. Within the limits of our capacity, we work with
those communities who are ready for the challenge of City at Peace and committed to its purpose.
City at Peace does not work with individuals. Because City at Peace is truly a team effort, we only work
with diverse teams of individuals from any community.
City at Peace does not end. Because our aim is to build programs that last, we only work with teams that
want to build sustainable programs.
So if you want to engage in the work of building a City at Peace, and you have assembled a team of leaders like
yourself who are ready to get busy, here's what you do:
- Gather your team and decide why you want to bring City at Peace to your community, how you think you can
do it together and what your team's role will be.
- Contact us and let us know of your interest. We have a few questions for you and a few suggestions, too. You
can e-mail us at info@cpnational.org or call us at 212-924-2300.
- Write us a letter stating your intention. We want to know why City at Peace is important for your community,
how you plan to make it happen there, and what resources you think you can bring to the effort.
- Your letter will be assessed by our staff and Board of Directors. If we all agree that your team has what it takes,
then you will have the opportunity to complete a full application to build a City at Peace program.
- The application is a rigorous set of requirements - from conducting a community assessment to building a local Advisory
Board to engaging youth to raising funds - that are the pillars of building a successful, sustainable City at Peace program.
- Once you complete the requirements, our Board of Directors then consider final approval. Once they do, you then
start the first City at Peace program in your community. If for some reason you are not approved, we will communicate
what you need to change and you will have the chance to try again.
Our aim is to build a national - and international - network of City at Peace programs that develop a cadre of youth
leaders creating safer, healthier and more peaceful lives and communities. The next generation will make City at Peace
possible and we aim to be the catalyst for that achievement.
We want to work with you to make your youth and your community a part of this exciting venture. So contact us any time.
